BRIEF: Cubs Game Day: Aiming for the sweep

April 30--The Chicago Cubs face a tough task Wednesday night in their attempt to complete a three-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

But manager Joe Maddon's gambling style has reinforced the respect that general manager Jed Hoyer has for him. So you can expect Maddon to employ several tactics in attempt to solve Pirates starter Gerrit Cole.

Cole has struck out 27 in 24-2/3 innings in addition to posting a 3-0 record in four starts. Cole is 5-0 in five starts against the Cubs, who are trying to extend their winning streak to five games.

"It's easy to go by the book," Hoyer said. "It's always easy to do things conservatively. (Maddon) is not afraid to make unusual moves or make moves that are unusually aggressive."
