June 04--WASHINGTON -- The start of Thursday night's game between the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals was delayed because of inclement weather and isn't scheduled to start until 7:55 CDT.
When play does start, David Ross will be making his third start at catcher, ahead of Miguel Montero.
Manager Joe Maddon explained that Ross faced a left-handed starter on Tuesday and caught Jon Lester on Wednesday. With the Cubs facing left-hander Gio Gonzalez on Thursday, Maddon opted for Ross over the left-handed hitting Montero.
Maddon added that Montero will catch the next three games.
"Keeping (Montero) frisky now is going to benefit him later," Maddon said. "It's also helping David get his game together. That's how we're built. You don't run away from it. The schedule itself dictates what what we're supposed to. so you just pay attention to it.''
Maddon added that he's had conversations with Montero, adding that Montero has been supportive of Ross.
