BRIEF: Cubs' Anthony Rizzo peaking offensively

May 12--Anthony Rizzo's all-around batting skills recently has been enhanced by his power.

The Chicago Cubs' first baseman has hit five home runs in his past 10 games to increase his team-leading total to seven.

His power surge occurred after he was struck by pitches six times in his first 13 games that raised his on-base percentage to .475.

Rizzo still remains among the National League's on-base percentage leaders, currently ranked third at .442 behind Matt Holliday of the St. Louis Cardinals (.465) and Dee Gordon of the Miami Marlins (.453).

In his past 20 games, Rizzo is batting .364 with six doubles, one triple, six home runs, 17 runs, 14 RBIs and eight walks.

Rizzo has reached base safely 53 times in his last 117 plate appearances and 61 times overall this season, only one behind Bryce Harper of Washington and Gordon.

Rizzo, who hit a game-tying double Sunday against Will Smith of Milwaukee, leads all major league left-handed hitters with a .458 batting average against left-handers.

Rizzo already achieved his career high in stolen bases with seven.
