Feb. 16--The Chicago Cubs added three players to their spring training roster, including outfielder Matt Murton.
Murton batted .294 with the Cubs over parts of four seasons (2005-08) and is a lifetime .286 hitter over five seasons with Oakland and Colorado. He played the past six seasons in Japan.
Also invited to spring camp were pitcher Ryan Williams and left-hander Edgar Olmos, who cleared waivers Tuesday. All three players were Tuesday as non-roster invitees.
Williams, 24, was named the Cubs' minor league pitcher of the year after posting a 14-3 record and 2.16 ERA in 26 games at Class-A South Bend and Double-A Tennessee.
Murton will wear uniform number 21, Williams will wear No. 87 and Olmos No. 62. Left-hander C.J. Riefenhauser, who was claimed off waivers last week, will wear No. 60.
The Cubs now have 21 non-roster invitees in spring training camp, including 12 pitchers.
