BRIEF: Cubs acquire reliever Tommy Hunter from Orioles for Junior Lake

Aug. 01--The Chicago Cubs fortified their bullpen minutes prior to the trade deadline Friday by acquiring reliever Tommy Hunter from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for outfielder Junior Lake.

Hunter, 29, is 2-2 with a 3.63 ERA in 39 games for the Orioles. He won 13 games as a starter for Texas in 2010 but has prospered since converting to a relief role with the Orioles. Hunter saved 11 games while posting a 2.97 ERA in 60 appearances last season.

Hunter is 11-9 with 39 holds, 15 saves and a 3.05 ERA in 167 relief appearances the past three seasons while limiting opponents to a .276 on-base percentage and .357 slugging percentage.

Lake, 23, is batting .315 with seven home runs and 31 RBIs at Triple-A Iowa. Lake Lake batted .241 over parts of three seasons with the Cubs.
