Sept. 01--The Chicago Cubs added outfield depth before Monday night's trade deadline by acquiring outfielder Austin Jackson from Seattle.
The Cubs will receive a cash consideration with Jackson, 28, who was batting .272 with eight home runs, 38 RBIs and 15 stolen bases in 107 games, for international draft slot No. 4 and a player to be named later.
Triple-A Iowa infielder Mike Olt was designated for assignment before Monday night's game against Cincinnati to make room for Jackson on the 40-man roster.
"I've seen (Jackson) for a long time in the American League," manager Joe Maddon said. "He's really a good player. When he starts swinging the bat well, he's very productive. He's a fine outfielder and a good base runner. Kind of a complete player, so to be able to pick him up right now, we're very fortunate."
