April 04--The Pink Line resumed its normal service Sunday morning after Chicago Transit Authority crews finished repairs on a signal relay house that was damaged in a small fire six days ago.
A fire at a signal relay house near the Ashland stop of the Green and Pink lines broke out Monday evening and stopped service to the Loop on both lines.
The damages affected the intersection where Pink Line trains merge with Green Line tracks. The signals and track switches that normally serve as a traffic signal for Pink Line trains to merge onto Green Line tracks were unable to operate properly, according to a CTA news release.
So while Green Line service resumed hours later, Pink Line trains traveling between the Polk station and downtown were halted until officials completed repairs at the relay house over the weekend.
Test trains operated successfully through the impacted area overnight Saturday into Sunday, CTA officials said.
The first Pink Line train was scheduled to depart the Loop toward 54th/Cermak about 5:30 a.m.
