BRIEF: CTA: Normal operations resume following smoke in subway

Aug. 20--CTA trains in the Red Line subway have resumed normal operations after smoke was reported in the tunnel in the 300 block of South State Street, officials said.

The smoke was reported around 9:30 a.m. but there were no reports of injuries.

Southbound trains were being routed to elevated stops from Fullerton to Roosevelt, then were making all normal stops, the CTA said. Passengers on trains in the subway were being taken off at the nearest station.

Earlier, subway trains had been diverted to the elevated tracks.
