BRIEF: Crews battle fire in Plainfield

April 30--Firefighters battled a blaze at a three-story building in suburban Plainfield early Thursday morning.

Crews were called to a three-story building at the corner of Fox River and Ottawa streets in the southwest suburb about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, said Plainfield Fire Protection District Chief Dave Riddle.

When firefighters arrived, the flame had engulfed the second floor of the building. Residents inside the building had self-evacuated, Riddle said.

No injuries were reported in the fire, but Riddle said the building "may be a total loss."

Fire officials could not immediately say what caused the fire.
