BRIEF: One dead in crash near Elwood

April 16--One person was killed after a car crashed into a semitractor-trailer near Elwood late Wednesday, authorities said.

The crash happened about 10:40 p.m. near State Route 53 and West Manhattan Road, according to Illinois State Police.

A car drove underneath a semitrailer, killing a male in the car, state police said. Further details, including the male's age, was not immediately available. The semi driver was uninjured.

State police were investigating the crash early Thursday. The Will County coroner's office would not immediately confirm the death.
