BRIEF: Crash downs power lines, snarls traffic in West Ridge

May 20--A driver crashed into a pole in West Ridge on the North Side Wednesday morning, knocking down power lines and closing busy Peterson Avenue, officials said.

The accident happened just before 7 a.m. near Damen Avenue, according to fire officials. Peterson was closed in both directions as ComEd worked to shut off power and remove the lines, officials said.

The driver was transported to Swedish Covenant Hospital. The driver's condition and other details were not available.
