BRIEF: Courtney Vandersloot gives Sky seventh Player of the Week honor

Sept. 08--Courtney Vandersloot was named Eastern Conference player of the week for the first time in her five-year career, and Naperville native Candace Parker earned the Western Conference award for the second time in the last three weeks.

Vandersloot's honor marks the seventh time out of 12 weeks this season a Sky player won the award. Elena Delle Donne was selected five times and Cappie Pondexter once. The Sky also become the first team this season to have three different players receive the award.

Vandersloot scored 21 and 10 points, respectively, in her last two games -- both wins -- and had totals of 11 assists and eight rebounds. She led the conference in field-goal (68.4) and 3-point (83.3) percentage. The point guard also leads the WNBA with 5.8 assists per game.

Parker led the Los Angeles Sparks to a 2-0 record while pacing the league with 29.5 points per game between Aug. 31 and Sunday.

The Sky's Allie Quigley also was a candidate for player of the week, along with the former Sky teammate and current Minnesota Lynx Sylvia Fowles, and Seattle Storm rookie Jewell Loyd, a former Notre Dame standout.
