BRIEF: Autopsies: Avondale couple died in homicide-suicide

April 02--A man and a woman who were found fatally stabbed Tuesday in a home in the Avondale neighborhood died in a homicide-suicide, the Cook County medical examiner's office determined Wednesday.

Officials identified the two Wednesday morning as Gerald Watson, 49, and Susan Mangino-Watson, 52, both of the 2800 block of North Maplewood Avenue, where they were found, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Gerald Watson suffered multiple stab wounds and died in a suicide, while Magino-Watson died from multiple sharp-force injuries in a homicide, the medical examiner's office determined following autopsies Wednesday.

About 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to the couple's address on the Northwest Side to assist paramedics, said Officer Michael Sullivan, a Chicago police spokesman.

When they arrived, police found a man and a woman dead of apparent stab wounds in what may have been a domestic-related incident, Sullivan said. Police believe the incident was a murder-suicide.

According to a neighbor, the man and woman were married.
