Oct. 29--A Cook County corrections officer was charged with felony theft, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
Fernando Munoz, 48, was arrested Wednesday and charged with theft.
The sheriff's office "received information" last year that Munoz was talking about stolen property with an inmate at the jail division where he worked, according to a release from that office.
The inmate referred Munoz to "an associate" so Munoz could view stolen property, according to authorities. Munoz met with the "associate" Oct. 31, 2013, at a storage facility in Chicago, according to the release.
The "associate" was cooperating with police. Two weeks later, Munoz returned to the facility and asked for a $1,200 watch, which he had on him when he was arrested leaving the facility, authorities said.
Munoz, of Cicero, has worked in the sheriff's office as a correctional officer for 12 years and is on administrative leave.
He was released after his arrest while investigations continued. He was placed on paid administrative leave after he was charged, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office said.
Munoz was ordered released on his own recognizance. He's next due in court
