BRIEF: Coroner identifies man fatally stabbed at Long Beach Metro station

April 25--The Los Angeles County coroner's office has identified a man fatally stabbed on a Metro Blue Line platform in Long Beach earlier this month.

Robert Goins, 45, died of multiple stab wounds on a train station platform April 15, according to the coroner's report.

Deputies of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Transit Policing Division had been patrolling the Wardlow Blue Line station platform, in the 3400 block of North Pacific Place, around 2:14 a.m., when they came across two men who appeared to have been in a fight, authorities said.

Goins was found lying on the ground and declared dead at the scene, police said. The other man fled and but taken into custody about a half-mile from the crime scene.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for self-inflicted knife wounds and was listed in critical condition, authorities said. The motive for the stabbing is unknown, authorities said.
