BRIEF: Police alert: Rooftop burglars cut holes to enter businesses

Nov. 03--Police issued a business alert Sunday evening warning of burglars who have entered West Side businesses through rooftops.

The burglars have hit businesses in the early morning in the city's Austin neighborhood. Police said the burglars cut a hole in the roof, disable the phones and alarm systems, then lower themselves into the store.

One incident took place Oct. 17 about 3 a.m. at a business located in the 300 block of North Central Avenue, police said. Three days later, the burglars struck again about 4 a.m. in the 700 block of North Cicero Avenue.

Anyone with information about the incidents should contact the Area North Bureau of Detectives at 312-744-8263.
