BRIEF: Cops warn of South Side robberies

Sept. 16--Police are warning Gresham neighborhood residents of a man who has robbed at least three people in recent weeks.

The man most recently robbed someone about 12:35 a.m. Tuesday in the 1300 block of West 87th Street, according to a community alert issued by Area South detectives.

The man has gone up to victims, shown a dark-colored or black semi-automatic handgun and demanded cash, cellphones and anything else of value, according to police.

In earlier robberies the man held up people in the 8600 block of South Ashland Avenue between about 1 and 1:20 a.m. Monday and between 10:30 and 10:45 p.m. Sept. 7, police said.

The robber was described as a black man with a dark complexion and short hair, between the ages of 20 and 50, 5-foot-9 to 6-foot-2 and 150 to 200 pounds. He has worn multicolored gym shoes, a black T-shirt, a black or blue jacket, dark bluejeans, and a baseball cap with a White Sox logo, police said.

Anyone with information about the robber is asked to call detectives at 312-747-8273.
