BRIEF: Cops warn of South Side burglaries

June 09--Police are warning South Side residents of burglaries just east of the Parkway Gardens housing complex in the West Woodlawn neighborhood.

The burglaries were reported from 2 p.m. June 1 to 4:10 p.m. Friday between 63rd and 65th Street and between King Drive and Cottage Grove Avenue.

In most incidents, police said that the burglars went in the homes while their occupants were away. In one of the incidents, someone confronted three burglars who fled the scene.

The community alert released by the Chicago Police Department suggested residents hide valuables from plain view, turn on alarm systems and secure the home before leaving.

The burglaries reported happened:

--In the 6400 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue about 2 p.m. June 1;

--In the 6600 block of South Marquette Road about 4:45 p.m. Thursday;

--In the 6300 block of South Langley Avenue about 7:20 a.m. Friday;

--In the 6300 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue about 4:10 p.m. Friday.

The three burglars believed involved were confronted by one of the victims when they broke into a home in the 6400 block of South St. Lawrence, police said.

Detailed descriptions of the burglars were not immediately available.
