Police issue alert after Douglas Park sexual assault on West Side

Nov. 13--Police continue to search for a man who grabbed a Greek tourist in Douglas Park and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint Monday night.

As of Thursday morning, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Ana Pacheco.

The 33-year-old victim was walking south on Kedzie Avenue near 19th Street about 11:30 p.m. Monday when she encountered a man who she asked for directions, police said in a community alert.

The man directed her to walk east through Douglas Park, then followed her, police said. He grabbed her and held what she believed was a gun to her head and sexually assaulted her, police said.

The victim had been here about two weeks on a work visa when, after trying to visit a "point of interest" in Chicago, got lost near 19th and Troy, according to a police report.

She fled after the assault and made her way to Mount Sinai Hospital where she asked for help.

Police are trying to recover video surveillance from the area.

The attacker was described as a black man between the ages of 25 and 35, about 5-foot-9 with a thin build, black hair and brown eyes and "clean shaven.''

Anyone with information was asked to contact Area Central detectives at 312-747-8380.
