BRIEF: Cops warn of robberies in Lakeview neighborhood

Sept. 19--Chicago police issued a community alert Saturday afternoon after two robberies over the last week in the city's Lakeview neighborhood on the North Side.

Police said the robber approached his victims from behind and used force to take their purses.

The first robbery happened about 6:15 p.m. Sept. 12 in the 1300 block of West Henderson Street. The second happened about 12:15 p.m. Sept. 17 in the 2800 block of North Pine Grove Avenue, police said.

The robber is described as a black man, between 18 to 22 years of age. He is between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall and weighs about 160 to 170 pounds. In the Henderson Street attack, the robber was wearing brown, calf-high fringed moccasin-style boots. In the Pine Grove robbery, the suspect was wearing a turquoise "do-rag," with a black T-shirt and blue sweatpants. In that robbery, he fled in a red minivan, police said.

Anyone with information about the robberies should contact the Chicago Police Area North Bureau of Detectives at (312) 744-8263.
