Sept. 29--Chicago police are warning the public to be aware of a man who attempted to lure a teenage boy into his van Monday on the Southwest Side of the city.
The incident happened at 7:40 a.m. on the 6900 block of South Lawndale Avenue in the West Lawn neighborhood, police said.
According to police, a man tried to lure the 15-year-old boy into his blue Chrysler minivan.
The man pulled up to the teen, who was sitting on a curb waiting for a bus, and asked the boy if he needed a ride, police said.
After the teen stood up from the curb, the man in the van said, "nevermind" and drove southbound on Lawndale Avenue, police said.
The driver is described as a white Hispanic man, between 35 and 45 years old. He had black hair and was wearing a black skull cap and a white shirt.
The van was missing trim along the bottom of the driver's side sliding door. A black rear license plate frame had yellow lettering with the words "Six Day Auto Sales."
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or the detectives bureau at (312) 747-8380.
