BRIEF: Cops warn of armed robberies at South Side businesses

Oct. 31--Police issued an alert Friday afternoon warning business owners about two robbers who have forced store managers to open safes at gunpoint.

Police said the robbers have targeted cellular stores. The duo displays a handgun and forces employees and customers to a back room where they demand a manager open the safe.

The first incident happened about 10:37 a.m. Thursday at a store on the 5600 block of South Harlem Avenue. About two hours later, another business was hit on the 200 block of West 87th Street, said police.

One robber is between 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs between 130 to 160 pounds. The other robber is between 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall and weighs about 140 to 190 pounds.

Anyone with information about the robberies should contact the Area Central Bureau of Detectives at 312-747-8382.
