BRIEF: Cops search for driver in hit-and-run accident that killed woman, 63

Dec. 13--Chicago police are searching for the driver and a passenger who were in an SUV involved in a fatal hit-and-run Sunday, police said Friday.

The accident happened at 7:50 a.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of West Division Street, police said.

The accident killed Bessie English, 63, of the 900 block of North Waller Avenue. English was driving her 1993 Ford Escort eastbound on Division Street when she was hit head-on by an SUV that was traveling westbound, police said.

English was pronounced dead at St. Mary Medical Center. An autopsy conducted Monday determined she died of multiple blunt traumatic injuries to the torso.

A tan 2010 Honda CRV with Wisconsin license plates was left at the scene, and two male occupants were seen fleeing on foot from the SUV.

Police are asking anyone who may have information about the accident or the driver of the vehicle to call Chicago police at (312) 745-4521.
