BRIEF: Cops release photos of 4 wanted in CTA Red Line robbery

Dec. 27--Police are asking for the public's help identifying four young men who robbed and beat a man after they were unhappy with his $5 donation to their basketball team.

Shortly after 3 p.m. on Dec. 7, the victim was on a CTA Red Line train between the 47th Street and Garfield Boulevard stations when he was approached by one of four people, said police.

The victim, 21, was asked for a donation for a basketball team. But once he gave the person $5, the person became irate and began to harass the victim for more money. When the victim refused to give more, the person began to strike the victim and took the victim's iPod.The other three then joined in, and one of them went through the victim's pockets and stole the rest of his cash, said police.

The four attackers then jumped off the train at the Garfield Boulevard station and fled the scene.

The robbers were described as black males between the age of 17 to 20. They all have medium complexions and are between 5 feet 10 to 6 feet tall, and weigh between 160 to 175 pounds, said police.

Anyone with information about the robbery should contact the Area Central Bureau of Detectives at 312-747-8382.
