July 16--Charges are pending against a male who was arrested Wednesday after at least six dogs were removed from a Maywood home as part of an alleged dogfighting investigation, officials said.
The raid happened on the 200 block of South 2nd Avenue in the near west suburb, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago Police Department spokesman. Officials said the raid happened Monday morning.
The arrest and the raid were led by the Chicago Police Department's animal crimes unit with assistance from the Cook County Sheriff's Office, according to Sweeney.
Officials did not say why the Chicago Police Department led the investigation. It was not known if Maywood police were involved.
Officials said at least six animals were removed from the home, as well as equipment used in dogfighting, including heavy chains and collars.
No other details were immediately available.
