BRIEF: Cops: Pit bulls shot by officers in Englewood

April 25--Chicago police officers killed one pit bull and wounded another Sunday afternoon after residents called police to say the dogs were chasing people in the city's Englewood neighborhood.

About 1:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of two vicious dogs chasing people in the 7000 block of South Aberdeen Street, said Officer Kevin Quaid, a Chicago police spokesman.

An officer shot one of the dogs, but the other got away, he said.

The second dog was located soon afterward in the 7000 block of South Carpenter Street and was shot dead, Quaid said.

Chicago Animal Care and Control also responded to the scene and took the wounded dog into custody, Quaid said.
