BRIEF: Cops: Motorist held following fight that left pedestrian dead

April 13--A domestic dispute between a couple early Sunday morning ended in a South Side crash that left a pedestrian dead, police said.

The 51-year-old victim, identified as Brent Nelson, was pronounced dead at 5:52 a.m. at Stroger Hospital, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

After a domestic altercation, a man drove off in one vehicle and the woman with whom he was fighting followed him in another car about 3:05 a.m. in the 0-100 block of West Garfield Boulevard in the Englewood neighborhood, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a spokeswoman for the Chicago Police Department.

When her vehicle slammed into his, he lost control and hit Nelson, critically injuring him, said Sedevic. Nelson, whose home address was unavailable, was later pronounced dead at Stroger, according to the medical examiner's office.

Charges are pending for the woman, who is in custody, said Sedevic. The man is being questioned.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
