BRIEF: Cops: Man yelled 'Fire!' to burglarize Northwest Side homes

Jan. 27--A man yelled "fire" into occupied Irving Woods and Edison Park neighborhood homes to distract residents during burglaries, according to police.

Police are looking for the man and his accomplice. They did not make off with any items from the forced entries into the homes.

One of the burglaries happened about 1:20 p.m. on Jan. 19 in the 3800 block of North Pacific Avenue. The occupants fled to a neighbor's house and called 911.

The other happened two days later, about 2:50 p.m. in the 6700 block of North Oxford Avenue.

"In each incident, the offender forced open the front door to make entry. The victims who were home heard the loud noise and confronted the offender. The offender then yelled "fire, fire!" according to an alert released by Chicago police.

Police said the man, about 20-25 years old, was white or white-Hispanic, between 5-foot-8 and 6 feet tall, and between 150 and 160 pounds.

He fled the homes and drove off with another person, who police did not describe, in a dark SUV or 4-door Ford F-150 with a chrome grill.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incidents to call Area North detectives at (312) 744-8263.
