BRIEF: Cops: Man tries to drive off parking garage in suicide attempt

April 14--A man was seriously injured Tuesday when he tried to drive off the top floor of a parking garage along the CTA Red Line in an apparent suicide attempt, authorities said.

Around 5 a.m., the man drove his gray Nissan toward the brick wall surrounding the top floor of the four-story garage at the Howard stop in the 7400 block of North Rogers Avenue in Rogers Park, according to police and fire officials.

The car hit the red brick wall and flipped onto the driver's side, the rear bumper resting on the top of the wall, police said.

The 50-year-old man was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Juan Hernandez.

The man told officials on the scene that he was trying to commit suicide, police said. No other injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation.
