BRIEF: Cops: Man tried to sexually assault woman in West Town, stole her iPhone

May 07--Police are searching for a man who they say stole a woman's cellphone and then tried to sexually assault her Tuesday night in the West Town neighborhood.

About 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, the man grabbed a 29-year-old woman in the 500 block of North Marshfield Street and led her into an alleyway, police said in an alert issued Wednesday afternoon.

The man then took her iPhone and tried to sexually assault her, but the woman began yelling for help, police said. The man fled the scene east across Ashland Avenue.

The man, who police said was 18 to 25 years-old, was described as black with black hair, about 5-foot-6 and 140 to 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt with a gray zigzag design and black pants.

Police are asking anyone with information to call detectives at 312-747-8380.
