Sept. 16--A man tried to lure a junior high school-age girl into his van Tuesday afternoon in the Archer Heights neighborhood, police said in an alert released Wednesday.
The girl was in the 4900 block of South Karlov Avenue about 3:36 p.m. when a man drove up to her and tried to get her to get into his van, Area Central detectives said in community alert issued Wednesday afternoon.
The man pulled up to the girl and "motioned with his hands for her to come over to his van," according to the alert.
The man parked the van next to the 12-year-old girl, but drove off when the girl's parents arrived to pick her up from school, police said.
The man is described as Hispanic, about 32 to 35 years old, with black hair and a light complexion. He was driving a white van with Illinois license plate number 1638716-B.
