BRIEF: Cops: Man tried to lure 2 teen girls, grabbed boy at Near North library

Dec. 12--A man tried to lure two young teens before he grabbed a small boy late Thursday afternoon at a library on the city's Near North Side, police said.

About 5 p.m., two teen girls, ages 13 and 14, were in the children's section of a library in the 300 block of West Division Street, when a man approached and started a conversation, police said. The Chicago Public Library's Near North Library is at 310 W. Division.

The man asked the girls to come over to his house and said he lived in the Cabrini-Green row houses. He then began talking to a young boy and grabbed the boy's arm. The boy's mother took her son from him and left the library, police said.

When a witness confronted the man, he left.

The man is described as black and between the ages of 21 and 25. He has brown eyes and black hair, and a dark complexion. He was wearing a red and white baseball cap, a red Starter jacket and black pants, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the Chicago Police Area Central Detective Division at 312-747-8380.
