BRIEF: Cops: Man linked to 3 burglarized gas stations with stolen lottery tickets

Feb. 22--A man charged with burglarizing three gas stations this month in Elgin was ordered held in lieu of $30,000 bail Sunday after being linked to the crimes through stolen lottery tickets, police said.

Barrington L. Goodman of the 900 block of Central Park Avenue in Evanston appeared before a Kane County Judge after being charged with three counts of burglary, a Class 2 felony.

Elgin police said the first two burglaries happened in the early morning hours of Feb. 8 and Feb. 14 at the same Marathon Gas Station at 285 N. McLean Blvd.

Police said a window was found shattered and police discovered that several Illinois Lottery tickets had been stolen along with cash.

On Saturday at about 4:40 a.m., Elgin police responded to a burglar alarm at the Citgo Gas Station, 282 Dundee Ave. When police arrived they also found that lottery tickets and cash had been stolen in the third burglary.

According to police, Des Plaines police contacted Elgin officers when they arrested Goodman, 25, at 8:30 a.m. Saturday trying to cash stolen lottery tickets that were traced back to the three burglarized gas stations.
