BRIEF: Cops: Man jumps from Kennedy overpass in attempted suicide

Aug. 25--A 37-year-old man was injured after he jumped from an overpass onto the Kennedy Expressway on Tuesday morning, according to police.

The man, who was not identified, jumped from the Van Buren Street overpass near the Loop and landed on the roadway, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago police spokesman.

The incident happened at 6:33 a.m., police said. The man was not hit by any vehicles, Estrada said.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. Police suspect the man had attempted suicide.

According to Illinois State Police, the incident happened on the westbound lanes and tied up traffic for about an hour.
