BRIEF: Cops: Chicago man killed in Gary shooting was helping deliver pizzas

Jan. 04--The Chicago Tribune Media Group's Post-Tribune reports: A 68-year-old Chicago man was shot and killed Saturday in Gary as he drove an employee of Rico's Pizza to deliver a pizza.

Tate Hatchett Jr., 68, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was found in a vehicle on the front lawn of a home in the 300 block of Durbin Street in Gary, according to a statement from the Lake County coroner's office.

Hatchett, of the 3000 block of West 77th Place in Chicago, was pronounced dead at 8:05 p.m. His death was ruled a homicide, according to the statement.

Hatchett was shot during a robbery, although he was not an employee of the Gary pizza business, Gary Police Sgt. Thomas Decanter said.
