BRIEF: Cops arrest 16-year-old bank robbery suspect

April 13--Charges are pending against a 16-year-old boy suspected of robbing a bank at gunpoint in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The boy was arrested at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday after he was suspected in a holdup at a TCF Bank branch at 6141 S. Archer Ave. a little after 4:10 p.m., according to FBI and Chicago police officials.

The FBI, which normally investigates bank robbery cases and refers them for federal charges, does not prosecute minors and referred the case to Chicago police, according to an FBI spokesman. Juvenile charges against the boy are pending, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

According to earlier information, the robber went into the bank and demanded money at gunpoint, said Officer Kevin Quaid, a police spokesman. The robber fled through the south door of the building, Quaid said.
