Nov. 17--Chicago rapper-turned-actor Common will don a sparkly green costume for his role in "The Wiz Live!" next month, according to a preview NBC released Monday.
The South Side native will play the bouncer in the live event, scheduled for 7 p.m., Dec. 3. The show features Queen Latifah as The Wiz; Ne-Yo as the tinman; David Alan Grier as the cowardly lion; "Orange is the New Black"'s Uzo Aduba as Glinda the Good Witch and newcomer Shanice Williams as Dorothy.
The role adds to Common's growing acting resume. He is slated to appear in the 2016 superhero flick "Suicide Squad," the "John Wick" sequel with Keanu Reeves and "A Happening of Monumental Proportions," a dramedy directed by DePaul alumna Judy Greer.
