BRIEF: Comedian Hannibal Buress to speak at Steinmetz College Prep graduation

March 28--Comedian Hannibal Buress is slated to return to his alma mater, Steinmetz College Prep, to speak at the Northwest Side high school's graduation ceremony, his rep confirmed Monday.

Buress, 33, attended Steinmetz and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Steinmetz's graduation is scheduled for June 15.

Reps for the school, 3030 N. Mobile Ave., did not return a Tribune request for comment. The Steinmetz Star, the school's newspaper, reported that a senior reached out to Buress in the fall with the idea.

Buress, who grew up on the West Side, reminisced about his time at Steinmetz in a 2014 Chicago magazine article.

"My group of friends at Steinmetz were real (expletive). They were real (expletive). They were cutting class, smoking weed, stealing, flipping the desk -- a lot of crazy stuff. My last year of high school, I was on the debate team. Even while being a (expletive) and doing goofy (expletive), I was still somewhat focused on going to college. I graduated with a 1.9 GPA," Buress said.

Buress voices a character in "The Angry Birds Movie," due out May 20, and is set to appear in the upcoming "Baywatch" reboot. His Netflix special "Comedy Camisado" dropped in February.
