March 22--Collaboraction announced that the 15th annual "Sketchbook" festival held in January would be the company's last, but the short-form festival format will live on with "Peacebook," a series of touring performances to be held in Chicago parks this summer.
Twenty-one short pieces, seven slated for each performance, will take place at three locations throughout the Chicago Park District in August. The festival opens Aug. 12-13 at the Englewood neighborhood's Hamilton Park, 513 W. 72nd St., and continues Aug. 19-20 at Austin's LaFollette Park, 1331 N. Laramie Ave. The festival's closing weekend is set for Aug. 26-27 at Clarendon Park, 4501 N. Clarendon Ave., in the Uptown neighborhood. All performances will be free.
The multidisciplinary slate of performances, each with a unique director and cast, will include new pieces of theater, dance and spoken word -- all seven minutes or fewer. The pieces will share a common theme of developing a more peaceful Chicago.
Collaboraction is currently accepting submissions through May 8 at collaboraction.org. The festival is presented as part of the Chicago Park District's Night Out in the Parks program.
