BRIEF: Clippers win fifth consecutive game with victory over New Orleans

Jan. 01--The Clippers extended their season-high winning streak to five games with a 95-89 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday night at the Smoothie King Center.

J.J. Redick led the Clippers with 26 points, DeAndre Jordan contributed 11 points and 20 rebounds, and Jamal Crawford added 14 points off the bench.

The Clippers, still without the injured Blake Griffin, had an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter, but the Pelicans rallied to tie it at 78-78, making it a back-and-forth game from that point.

Then with New Orleans ahead by one, 87-86, after a Tyreke Evans three-point play, the Clippers withstood the challenge by playing better defense and converting on offense.

After Crawford made a basket, Jrue Holiday turned the ball over and Chris Paul, who had an awful night shooting, drilled a 19-foot jumper for a 90-87 Clippers lead with one minute left.

After a Pelicans timeout, Holiday scored to pull New Orleans within 90-89. But Crawford made a shot off a curl play for a 92-89 lead and then Jordan was credited with a steal against Anthony Davis.

Paul, who was three for 18 shooting from the field, finished the game off by making three out of four free throws.
