Jan. 07--The Clippers have traded reserve point guard Jared Cunningham and an undisclosed amount of cash to the Philadelphia 76ers in a move that will create roster space and save the Clippers money under the hard salary cap.
The 76ers subsequently waived Cunningham, who had averaged 1.8 points and 0.5 assists in 19 games this season with the Clippers.
The teams also swapped the rights to draft picks as part of the trade, though their identities were not immediately known.
The deal removes roughly $400,000 from the Clippers' salary cap and prevents them from paying associated luxury taxes.
Though no moves are imminent, the Clippers are actively trying to upgrade a bench that has drastically underachieved with the exception of shooting guard Jamal Crawford. The team's bench is averaging 32.3 points a game, ranking 19th in the NBA.
