BRIEF: Clippers' rebranding continues with plans for a team mascot

Sept. 02--In their continuing quest to rebrand their team, the Clippers are in the "planning stages" of having a team mascot, said an NBA official who was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

The Clippers won't have the mascot for opening night of the regular season, the official said, but the team hopes to have one in place around the All-Star break.

The team plans on using the mascot for community events, the official said.

The Clippers have discussed different names for the mascot -- "Seagull Knievel" was declined -- and are still in the developmental stages of coming up with a name, the official said.

Once the Clippers get their mascot, there will be only three NBA teams without one: the Lakers, the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets.

In the Los Angeles area, the professional sports teams with mascots are the Kings, who have Bailey, a 6-foot lion; the L.A. Galaxy, who have Cozmo; and the Anaheim Ducks, who have Wild Wing.

Part of the Clippers' rebranding has been new team logos, new uniforms and a new court design for the 2015-16 season.
