BRIEF: Clippers' Ralph Lawler to receive star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

June 22--Ralph Lawler, the Clippers broadcaster who recently completed his 36th season with the team, will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2016, it was announced Monday.

Lawler will join other legendary local sports broadcasters to receive stars including Vin Scully, Chick Hearn and Bob Miller.

"Thrilled humbled by the honor," Lawler tweeted. "Lucky to have worked in this great City all these years. Thanks -- Clippers."

Lawler, 77, joins a heavy hitter's list of honorees from the entertainment industry including Michael Keaton, Quentin Tarantino, Kathy Bates, Tracy Morgan, David Duchovny, Rob Lowe, Gary Sinise and Cyndi Lauper, among others.

Lawler recently persevered through a trying season in which he missed one game while recovering from complications to remove a kidney stone and slurred his words during another game, the aftereffects of a bout of food poisoning.

But he told The Times in April that he would return next season because he felt invigorated by the Clippers' recent run of success and the direction of the franchise under new owner Steve Ballmer.
