Jan. 07--Three months after their historic seasons ended, Clayton Kershaw and Mike Trout continue to pick up awards.
The most valuable players in their respective leagues, Kershaw and Trout were named the 2014 sportsmen of the year by the Los Angeles Sports Council.
Kershaw and Trout will be honored on March 15 at the L.A. Sports Awards, which will be hosted by the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Kershaw will be accepting his second sportsman of the year award. He also earned the prize in 2011.
This year, Kershaw became the first pitcher to be named the National League's MVP since Bob Gibson in 1968. The Dodgers left-hander was sidelined for the entire month of April with a strained back muscle, but finished the season with a 21-3 record and 1.77 earned-run average. He pitched a no-hitter and won his third Cy Young Award.
Trout, who is just 23, led the majors with 115 runs scored. The Angels outfielder also led the American League with 111 runs batted in and established a new career high in home runs with 36. A unanimous MVP selection, Trout was also named the MVP of the All-Star game.
