May 02--A Cinco de Mayo family festival will be held Friday night at Gates Elementary School in Aurora.
The event is designed to raise funds for the school's new playground for special needs students.
The fest will include music, food, games and more. It will run from 5 to 8 p.m at Gates Elementary, 800 Seventh Ave.
Admission to the Cinco de Mayo celebration is free, and tickets will be sold for food and games.
Gates Elementary, which serves many of the East Aurora School District's physically challenged students, is planning to build a playground with new equipment to serve special needs students and all children in the community.
The playground project, called Gateway to Laughter, is being spearheaded by Benedictine University student Aimee Ford and other Benedictine students, with the assistance of Rebuilding Together Aurora.
Plans are to have wheelchair accessible ground cover and four or five major pieces that may include music stations, sensory panels and crawling or swing apparatus.
