BRIEF: CicLAvia, the popular bike festival, returns to the San Fernando Valley

March 05--A four-mile route between Pacoima and Panorama City will be closed to traffic Sunday to make room for CicLAvia, the popular bicycle festival that has been held more than a dozen times throughout Los Angeles.

Weather permitting, thousands of people are expected to turn out for the event, which will stretch along Van Nuys Boulevard between San Fernando Road and Roscoe Boulevard.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the route will belong to bicyclists, pedestrians, skaters and others interested in spending time with their families, friends and neighbors.

Mayor Eric Garcetti, local leaders and actor Danny Trejo, who has starred in such films as "Heat" and "Con Air," will kick off the event at 8:30 a.m.

Hubs located in Pacoima, Arleta and Panorama City will offer refreshments, food, art displays and various activities for participants.

CicLAvia, which is held in various locations throughout the year, encourages residents to get out of their cars and rediscover Los Angeles from a different perspective. The goal is to promote a cleaner environment and good health.

Sunday will be the second time CicLAvia has been in the San Fernando Valley.
