BRIEF: CicLAvia comes to Southeast L.A. on Sunday

May 14--REPORTING FROM -- In a first for Southeast Los Angeles, the popular bicycle festival known as CicLAvia will close streets to cars and open them for cyclists, walkers and skaters from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Streets in Huntington Park, Walnut Park, South Gate, Florence-Firestone, Lynwood and Watts are included in the festival, which encourages people to do without their cars for a day and rediscover their community on other wheels -- or none at all.

CicLAvia is held in different locations throughout the year; the last one drew thousands of participants March 5 in the San Fernando Valley. The CicLAvia website calls it the nation's largest open streets event.

Sunday's forecast calls for partly cloudy skies but no rain, and a high temperature in the low 70s. Southwest winds will reach about 11 mph.
