Sept. 08--Broadway in Chicago has announced that veteran Broadway choreographer Christopher Gattelli will join the team of the pre-Broadway tryout of "The Spongebob Musical."
Gattelli is best known for his choreography in "Newsies," for which he received the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards.
As previously announced, Steppenwolf Theatre ensemble member Tina Landau will direct, with book by Karl Jarrow and music supervision by Tom Kitt. The musical will feature songs by Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, The Flaming Lips, John Legend, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper and David Bowie, among others.
"The Spongebob Musical" will play at Broadway in Chicago's Oriental Theatre, 24 W. Randolph St., from June 7 through July 3. It is set to open on Broadway in the 2016-17 season.
