BRIEF: Chihuahua puppy with 2 broken legs abandoned in Northern California trash bin

Nov. 05--Authorities in Santa Rosa, Calif., are investigating how a Chihuahua puppy with two broken legs was found in a dumpster.

An employee at Santa Rosa Junior College found the puppy inside the dumpster in a campus parking lot Tuesday, according to the college's police department.

A nearby animal hospital treated the puppy for its injuries -- and outfitted the dog with two magenta-colored casts -- and Sonoma County Animal Services took custody of the animal, the college's police department said.

The police department is assisting county animal services with the investigation.

The puppy did not have an electronic ID microchip or identification tags, and no suspects have been identified in connection with the injured puppy.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sonoma County Animal Services at (707) 565-7100.
