BRIEF: Chicken nuggets, patties recalled; they may contain plastic, wood, rubber

April 27--More than 4.5 million pounds of cooked chicken products are being recalled over concerns that they may contain plastic, wood, rubber, metal or other extraneous materials.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said Wednesday that Pilgrim's Pride Corp. is recalling chicken made between Aug. 21, 2014 and March 1 of this year. The brand names on the packages include Gold Kist Farms, Sweet Georgia Brand and Pierce. The recalled products are mostly nuggets and patties in 5-pound clear bags. Some 10-pound bags were also included.

The chicken products were sold nationwide for institutional use, including schools.

The recall was spurred by several consumer complaints of plastic in chicken nuggets. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions after eating the chicken.

The recalled products have establishment number "EST. 20728" inside the USDA mark of inspection. Consumers are urged to throw the chicken away or return it.

A full list of the recalled products can be found here.
